How much does it cost to sign up? Signing up and playing is free!
What's the catch? There's no catch. I wanted to make it easy to connect with other nearby tennis players in some friendly, low stakes matches. The idea being that the more real matches we play, the better we'll get.
Are there any guidelines on who should join? Everyone is welcome. There are no restrictions but ideally you're familiar with some level of competitive singles match play.
Do I need to live in Boulder, CO to participate? Nope. It's easier if you live nearby in Boulder County, as I expect most of the matches will take place in or around Boulder. But if you live further away and don't mind commuting in, feel free to join.
Can I invite a friend? Yes! Send them a link to this page and have them register.
When do I need to register by? The registration deadline is July 31st.
What happens if I miss the registration deadline? I'll be sharing more information as this is dependent on the number of participants. Given it's the first time this is being organized, I expect we'll have room. I'll post more instructions on how to register late on July 31st.
I don't play singles, but I play doubles. Can my partner and I join? Unfortunately, Summer Shootout is a Singles competition. If there is doubles demand, I'll be looking at that in the future. There's just a bit more organizational overhead in organizing a doubles competition.
Why the Western theme? I thought it would be fun.
Who's organizing this and why? If we haven't met, I'm Phil Dorion. I live in Boulder and have been playing tennis for most of my life. I just got back into playing more competitively and have found it difficult, especially as an adult, to organize singles matches. I have been driving out to Denver to play, but was hoping to organize a community nearby.
What's High Altitude Tennis Lab? It's the name for my organization, registered as an LLC. I created it because I plan to create other tennis events in the future under the High Altitude Tennis Lab umbrella. Summer Shootout is my first event I'm experimenting with. Hopefully there's more to come soon :)
